Autonomous Systems

As drones and robots act on their own, authority has to be set in advance, checked at the moment of action, and provable afterward.

The challenge

Delivery, inspection, and agricultural drones, warehouse robots, and other autonomous systems increasingly act without a person approving each step. At scale, no one can approve every action by hand.

What Cathedral checks

Before an autonomous system takes action, Cathedral checks each proposed step against the operating rules and authorities that apply (operating areas and limits, safety rules, and who may approve an exception).

Proof afterward

Every decision records the rule, the authority, and the reason, so operators, customers, and regulators can see why each action was allowed.

Built for small computers

Autonomous systems often run on limited onboard hardware. Making authority checks fit within those limits is an active area of our research.
